Balmont was one of the fastest juveniles of his year, winning both the Middle Part and the Gimcrack, and speed was to be his forte throughout his career. He won four of his starts at two, and from the other 12 subsequent efforts he was second to Osterhase in the Pheonix Sprint and third in the July Cup (to Frizzante), in the Temple Stakes (to Celtic Mill) and in the Golden Jubilee Stakes (to Cape of Good Hope).
His sire Stravinsky was brilliantly fast and completed the July Cup/Nunthorpe Stakes double, and he has left quite a few smart performers, one of the most recent being the talented sprinter Benbaun.
Balmont stems from one of the very best stallion families in the stud book, that of Danehill, Machiavellian, Artic Tern, Cannonade, Burooj, Stephan's Odyssey and even the grandaddy himself, Northern Dancer.

A brilliant and consistent performer on the track from 2 to 5 years of age, Balmont won the Middle Park Stakes (Eng-G1) and the Gimcrack stages (Eng-G2) as a 2YO. Sired by the July Cup winner Stravinsky and from the immortal stallion making family of Almahmoud, Balmont’s pedigree is a fusion of top class speed and classic influences. His dam, Aldebaran Light, was lightly raced by her breeder and won 3 from 5 lifetime starts. From 3 to race she has already produced a Group 1 sprinter in Balmont, the dominant US 3YO of 2009, Group 1 winner Eskendereya and 2YO winner in the 2010 season.
